“When I started working with Gavin in November 2025, I had no powerlifting experience to speak of. I had picked up a barbell for the first time maybe six months prior to that; so, needless to say, I was basically a blank slate.

Our first block together, I was rehabbing a knee injury as well as learning how to properly do the three primary movements. Gavin had no hesitation taking this challenge head on. He was patient with me while I re-acclimated myself to loading weight post-injury and while I struggled to really nail down competition standards. To speak a little more on Gavin as a coach, he is one of the best in Maine to do it. His coaching fee is an amazing deal for the amount of knowledge, care, and passion he brings. He is very upfront about all aspects of the coaching relationship. You always know when to expect communication and when not to. His feedback is very fair and concise. If something didn’t go well, he’ll help you work it out so next time goes better. His meet day handling is also top notch. He is extremely thorough and plans out warmups and pacing, several sets of attempts for all lifts, and has backup plans for the backup plan. All you have to do meet day is show up and lift, he takes care of the rest. Being quite a bit older than the rest of his roster, I feel like I’ve pushed him to step out of his comfort zone and come up with creative solutions to problems that arise. I absolutely believe this has been great for me as an athlete and him as a coach. Together we’ve added over 300 lbs to my total and this is only the beginning.”
